It is truly amazing all the horrible events life throws at you, foreclosures, divorce, and downsizing, and moving from house to house. You try to save things that are of value, or have sentimental value. This Sony television has been moved from storage shed to storage shed, kept in horrible conditions and now I finally have time in my life to bring her inside and see if she still preforms, and yes she is a rugged survivor.
When you think of all the millions of good working CRT analog televisions that were throwaway by thoughtless people over the past thirty years it bogles your mind. It is amazing the things that survive through the years. I remember just a few years ago people could not get ride of their analog television fast enough, millions thrown into land fields, and crushed in trash compactors at recycling centers. Now only a few of each model or design are left, and many have become very expensive and collectable.

I was like but it was such a great television you were watching it just last night. They are like have you not heard they are obsolete, analog televisions are being replace by something new and different. I was like you folks are crazy and very wasteful. Here sits the Sony in the mess of my Livingroom, I have been rummaging through my past, and this television was in a shed that was occupied by a family of raccoons.
They had destroyed a lot of vintage electronics, and I was for sure this model was do for, but I was wrong, she plays and sounds very good. The color is sharp and the speakers are working with amazing sound. We have done such a good job of destroying well made analog television in the past that many of these era televisions are now very rare, and valuable now.
They are becoming priceless collectables. It is a sad cometary of our wasteful society. We are always wanting the latest most trendy design, or flavor of the week. Sometimes what we throughway is much better made and of lasting value than the newer cheaply manufactured product we are frothing at the mouth to have in our home or office. Hi I have 37 inch sony trinitron color tv model kvs26 that when I turn it on the standby light blinks on and off for like 2 to 3 minutes after the 2 to 3 min go on the screen turns on.
When the screen turns on it starts to blink on and off but the sound works fine. In the back of the tv is the tube and theres a little knob that you can turn when I turn it the blinking goes slower but keeps blinking and if you countinue to turn it the screen goes black and some lines that go horizontal in blue green and red appear.

How to Troubleshoot a Sony Trinitron TV
These days the picture takes a long time to appear after I turn on the power and it sometimes disappears when I watch it forcing me to turn the power off and start the TV again.Trinitron is Sony 's brand name for its line of aperture-grille -based CRTs used in television sets and computer monitors.
Constant improvement in the basic technology and attention to overall quality allowed Sony to charge a premium for Trinitron devices into the s. Patent protection on the basic Trinitron design ran out inand it quickly faced a number of competitors at much lower prices. Sony responded by introducing their flat-screen FD Trinitron designs WEGAwhich maintained their premier position in the market into the early s. Sony removed the last Trinitron televisions from their product catalogs inand ceased production in early Video monitors are the only remaining Trinitron products being produced by Sony, at a low production rate, although the basic technology can still be found in downmarket televisions from third parties.
The name Trinitron was derived from trinitymeaning the union of three, and tron from elec tron tube, after the way that the Trinitron combined the three separate electron guns of other CRT designs into one.
Color television had been studied, [ when? At the time, a number of systems were being proposed that used separate red, green and blue signals RGBbroadcast in succession. Most [ which? Another problem was that the mechanical filter made them flicker unless very high refresh rates were used.
RCA worked along different lines entirely, using the luminance-chrominance system. This system did not directly encode or transmit the RGB signals; instead it combined these colors into one overall brightness figure, the " luminance ". Luminance closely matched the black and white signal of existing broadcasts, allowing it to be displayed on existing televisions. This was a major advantage over the mechanical systems being proposed by other groups.
Color information was then separately encoded and folded into the signal as a high-frequency modification to produce a composite video signal — on a black and white television this extra information would be seen as a slight randomization of the image intensity, but the limited resolution of existing sets made this invisible in practice.
On color sets the signal would be extracted, decoded back into RGB, and displayed. Although RCA's system had enormous benefits, it had not been successfully developed because it was difficult to produce the display tubes.
Black and white TVs used a continuous signal and the tube could be coated with an even deposit of phosphor. With the compatible color encoding scheme originally developed by Georges Valensi inthe color was changing continually along the line, which was far too fast for any sort of mechanical filter to follow.
Instead, the phosphor had to be broken down into a discrete pattern of colored spots. Focusing the right signal on each of these tiny spots was beyond the capability of electron guns of the era, and RCA's early experiments used three-tube projectors, or mirror-based systems known as " Triniscope ". RCA eventually solved the problem of displaying the color images with their introduction of the shadow mask.
The shadow mask consists of a thin sheet of steel with tiny holes photo etched into it, placed just behind the front surface of the picture tube. Three guns, arranged in a triangle, were all aimed at the holes. Stray electrons at the edge of the beam were cut off by the mask, creating a sharply focused spot that was small enough to hit a single colored phosphor on the screen. Since each of the guns was aimed at the hole from a slightly different angle, the spots of phosphor on the tube could be separated slightly to prevent overlap.

A 17 inch prototype Chromatron was announced in Japan in September, It was never sold to the public. In May,Sony introduced a 19 inch model 19C I think many have assumed, or at least I did, that the 19 inch Chromatron used a one beam like the original Lawrence tube. Turns out not to be the case - it used a AB22 delta three gun tube, and had an all-tube chassis.
Between 13, and 18, were sold, only in Japan, before Sony pulled the plug to develop the Trinitron. Sony manufactured two additional Chromatrons in Japan inthe model 19C 80 and 19C These models also used the same 19 inch CRT and an all-tube chassis.

Most of the circuit boards look the same. I'm trying to find the production numbers of the KV U, by comparing serial numbers with other collectors. I know a collector who has the same cabinet style, but it has a Trinitron in it and his serial number is a thousand higher. The model I saw in October, said "Trinitron Color" with a rectangular three color logo on the cabinet I purchased this model back then and later the logo was changed to the ellipse shape.
I speculate possibly only a thousand or so Chromatron's were manufactured and who knows how many survived over the last 45 years. Why did Sony introduce a Chromatron in the U. This is speculation, but I think Sony wanted to honor a promise to it's shareholders, they were under pressure to release their first color television to the U.

I Always labeled trinitron as a failed and inferior experiment by Sony because of the lines wires. I used to spend at least 10 ours a day in front of a monitor, the Sony glass was so much better for DTP work, those wires were hardly visible, they did make great rulers though.
I had that dream. For a long time. Included: One brand new Dell Ultrascan P monitor. Now that little jewel is sitting in MY storage room instead, just as unused, too. Those CRTs are awesome for retrogaming, but soooo darn bulky. No idea how I did put up with that two decades back. Before Trinitron, color CRTs used a dot triad shadow mask. The electron guns were arranged in a triangle and fired at matching trios of holes in the mask, lighting up trios of Red, Green, and Blue phosphor dots.
